Super Bowl Ads are #OnAMission with Cause Marketing

According to Variety.com, Super Bowl 2015 viewership was the highest it's ever been, with just over 114 million viewers throughout the game. No doubt a large number of viewers actually were into the tight-scoring game that was a nail biter on both sides the entire game.

But for the rest of us, it was all about the commercials. Many people had their own personal favorites, but what was most surprising was that there were a few standout causes that were reflected, both from a PSA and a corporate brand.

The NFL's ad agency produced the PSA from NoMore.org, that brings you into a domestic violence 911 call, where a dispatcher discovers the caller is placing a make-believe pizza delivery order as a cover up for a real emergency call. Putting yourself in the shoes of this woman is chilling enough to give anyone goosebumps. Here's the PSA now:

Perhaps the most shocking cause-related ad was by Nationwide, which shows a little boy who states he will never grow up to live a myriad of situations such as riding a bike or getting married because he drowned in his bath tub. This ad received a lot of negative feedback from social media as too dark and depressing. Yet according to Nationwide: "Preventable injuries around the home are the leading cause of childhood deaths in America. Most people don't know that. Nationwide ran an ad during the Super Bowl that started a fierce conversation. The sole purpose of this message was to start a conversation, not sell insurance."

And overall there was an increase in "feel good" ads around dads being good dads, such as this Nissan commercial set to Cats in the Cradle. My personal favorite commercial was the heartwarming #BestBuds by Budweiser, which is no surprise considering my love for puppies!

What was your favorite Super Bowl 2015 commercial? Share in the comments section below.

Lemongrass Spa is #OnAMission to Spread Awareness of All Natural Skincare Products

Alexandra with Lemongrass Spa founder Heidi Leist(Alexandra having fun interviewing Lemongrass Spa founder Heidi Leist
Alexandra having fun interviewing Lemongrass Spa founder Heidi Leist
Last weekend I had the honor of attending convention of a company very special to me: Lemongrass Spa, a mission-driven company whose mission is to spread awareness of all natural and organic handmade products and provide the very highest quality products possible (Disclaimer: I am a consultant for Lemongrass Spa, which is a direct sales company. To learn more about the company and products, click here).

Apart from meeting the founders Heidi and Bryan Leist, a heart-centered couple that is highly accessible, networking and bonding with other Lemongrass Spa consultants, I learned quite a bit about sales and business that is relevant to everyone.

Featured keynote speaker Belinda Ellsworth has decades worth of experience in direct sales companies. Here are the key takeaways from Belinda as well as other speakers from the weekend:

Priorities of a Successful Leader by Belinda Ellsworth
  • Goal Setting/Vision: Only 13% of people set goals and 3% have any big picture vision for their life. Furthermore, only 1% of individuals have the natural ability to be born leaders and build vision in others. Leaders must set goals for themselves and others, have a big picture vision, and learn/emulate from other leaders. If you do this, you will be in the top percentile of leaders in your industry.
  • Schedule Your Day/Week: Try this exercise: for a week write down EVERYTHING you do in your day. Chances are you will find you waste a ton of time on things that are not furthering your business or personal growth. Instead, try scheduling your day and week in advance. And most importantly, stick to it. At the end of the day, check your progress and see where you've been spending most of your time. Discipline is a muscle, you need to practice it.
  • Create the Spark: Everywhere you go, create passion around your mission and business.
5 D's of Success by Belinda Ellsworth:
  • Decision: decide what you want
  • Desire: continues to build/grow
  • Details: Daily to do lists builds your discipline, make sure to set reasonable expectations of what you can do
  • Destination: make sure to reach it
  • Determination: decide what you want, follow through, never lose sight of the end result and keep going
5 Gifts of Direct Selling by Belinda Ellsworth:
  • Financial Freedom
  • Flexibility of Time
  • Friendships
  • Recognition
  • Personal Growth & Self Esteem
Other Keys to Success:
  • Set your day into 15-minute increments of income producing activities
  • Focus on your business 4 days a week
  • People will mirror what you put out
  • Commitment: Keep your commitments
  • Consistent: follow through on the mundane tasks even if you don't want to do them.
  • Organization: Keep all your sales leads in one folder.
  • Make booking calls when you're on fire, not when you're desperate for leads! Your confidence will shine through!
  • Follow up: follow up, follow up!
  • Focus on why people love your product/service and focus on that.
  • Never pre-judge your clients or prospects. You never know what someone is going through that could lead them to want to work with you. Always do the sales talk no matter what. Invite them to be your client, they may be waiting for you.
  • Ideal Client: envision your ideal client
  • Share: Love for your product/service, integrity of the company, friendships/comraderie
  • Goal setting: create a sense of urgency
  • Customer Care: follow up, follow up.
  • Pushy people aren't afraid to be pushy. OFFER, don't push.
  • Take the time to pray before a call or meeting to be of service to your clients and to prepare their hearts to be open to your product/service.
  • Remember to have fun!

5 Reasons To Use Pinterest for Business

Here's a great article from my friend and excellent social media strategist Allison Semancik from Idea Sprouts Marketing. Pinterest is the 3rd most used social media platform so it may be a good idea to pay attention and start your own account, if you haven't already. Here's to your success! ~Alex

5 Reasons Why You Should Be Using Pinterest for Business

If you have been on the fence about using Pinterest for your business, it's understandable. I know what you're thinking, "Oh man! Not another site I have to keep up with!"

But if you were getting results out of using the network, wouldn't you want to give it a try? Here are my reasons why you should be using Pinterest for your business.

1. More Website Traffic

Websites and blogs are reporting an increase in traffic to their sites once they started using Pinterest. As soon as I began using Pinterest for Idea Sprouts I began to get new traffic AND leads from the site.

Since increased website traffic can also increase leads and sales, Pinterest is worth considering as another social media network for your business.

2. Links to Your Website

If you have "pin-worthy" images and videos on your website, people will start pinning them to their Pinterest boards. That means you get a link back to your website with every pin.

If you want to see if you have any pins back to your website, use this website address: http://pinterest.com/source/YOURWEBSITE/

So for my website, I'd use: http://pinterest.com/source/ideasproutsmarketing.com/

You will then see a list of pins that anyone has pinned from your website. Pretty neat!

3. Get Found by New People

Every time someone pins or repins one of your images, you have the potential to get found by even more people. That's because your images will show up on their boards and their followers will see it.

In addition, when you pin or repin an image, you have the option to share it on Facebook and/or Twitter, which means even more eyes will see your content.

4. Showcase Products

While I don't advocate using Pinterest to blast people with images of all of your products or ebooks (in fact, being overly promotional is against Pinterest rules), you can certainly use it to highlight items.

For instance, I have a board with Facebook Marketing Ideas and in it, I include an image and link to my free ebook, 50 Facebook Marketing Ideas. But I also include other videos, articles and tips on Facebook marketing on the board - and it's not all from me or my website.

If you have physical products with gorgeous photos, you have a real opportunity to shine on Pinterest. Especially if your products are popular with women (right now, the majority of Pinterest users).

5.  Get Personal

One of the great things about Pinterest is its simplicity. You can share so many different types of photos and images very easily, and get more personal. Add photos of your employees, your events, or testimonials from happy customers. People may begin following you because of one pin they liked, but they will take a few minutes to learn more about you by looking at your boards.

I'm going to be sharing more Pinterest ideas with you in the upcoming weeks, but for now, why not set up an account? Once you do, I'd love to connect with you. You can follow Idea Sprouts and my personal account Allison Semancik.
I'm looking forward to seeing your pins!

5 Actionable Steps to Brand Yourself Today

I've mentioned before that Branding is a long-term success strategy. The following are 5 actionable steps you can do today to increase your Branding image and recognition.

1. Visualize and set Long-Term Goals - Aim high in all areas of your life, including your success, fame and recognition as you want it. Visualize exactly how you want your life to be. Based on your visualization, write down your goals 5, 10, 15 and 30 years out.

2. Ask your clients for Testimonials/Endorsements - Ask a few of your most satisfied clients for endorsements and post them on your website or newsletter.

3. Document your work - Think in terms of a retrospective down the road. Document the work you have sold in the past, any awards, honors and press articles received, etc. [Okay this may take more than a day.. perhaps a weekend. But it's worth it!]

4. Do a Google.com search for your name - Make sure the first page of Google.com is all positive or at least factual! Create a Google.com Alert to spot any negative postings associated with your name.

5. Add tags to any of your websites online - Your tags should include your name and a few keywords that you most want to associate with you. Apart from your website and blog, include tags on YouTube videos, Flickr images, etc.

Are You Creating A Successful Brand?

So you'd like to attract more clients, sell more work and charge higher prices. But then you see yourself falling into the same patterns and routines where you become like everyone else...one of the masses.

Instead, remember the first two of my "3 Keys to Marketing Success": You-niqueability and Memorability. In other words, work on those areas that reflect how you are most unique and memorable. This is part of a strategic and vital Branding effort for your marketing plan. Most people don't ever take the time to concentrate on this. But you are You-nique and memorable!

Branding elevates you and your business by allowing you to:

1. Focus on who you want to be. Your brand identity is based on what you aspire to be, and that should always be forefront on your website, social media presence and marketing campaign. For example, if you aim to sell to a more affluent market, it may not be a good idea to participate in local craft fairs every week.

2. Focus on your You-nique value: There is only one You. That's what people are buying. When you price according to your value, you don't have to give discounts down to the ground to sell your work (unless of course, you are branded as a discount business!). Why should you? You worked hard to create your unique product and deserve to charge what you deserve for it.

3. Focus on long-term success. You may have to forego some profits in the short-run by not cutting your prices or opting for business practices that may develop over time. Be patient. Branding is not about overnight success, but prolonged, steadily increasing success. It's worth it!

Taking advantage of your You-niqueability and Differentiating yourself will make you irresistible and stand out to your clients. And always maintain confidence in yourself and your abilities!

"ArtistaTip" Question: How to Attract Customers

Today's "ArtistaTip" question comes from Patty from Philadelphia who asks:

Q: I feel as though I'm running around in circles trying capture my clients; I wish they would just come to me. Do you have any suggestions?

~Patty, Philadelphia, PA

A: This is a great question and I've received many similar questions and concerns from artists lately. Without knowing your background or where you are in your business, I recommend focusing your efforts on a Branding campaign for you and your work. Branding is all about finding your niche and uniqueability, or your expertise that people remember you by. Once you hold that memorability factor, you can begin to attract more of your followers who love your work. Branding is not a short-term technique but a long-term strategy; however you can begin today to increase your efforts. Make small changes to your website or in your marketing material to reflect your You-niqueability. Ultimately remembering that you and your style are unique can build your confidence, which aids you in attracting more clients!

For more information on branding or marketing, check out one of my upcoming Webinars or workshops Scheduled, topics include Branding on 4/23, Strategic Online Marketing and Publicity.

Who's looking at your portfolio online?

Increasingly the art world is heading online, and people are searching for you whether you like it or not. Amidst all the clutter on the Internet, presentation is key! Regardless of whether you have your own website, your art posted on Facebook or an online arts community such as ArtistaMundo.com, your online site is a reflection of you.

If you are serious about selling or promoting your work for a living, listen up. Here are some tips that will help you and your work stand out when that gallerist happens to stumble upon your art page:

1. Your site is you. This may be the first impression people have of you. Online portfolios like those on ArtistaMundo.com have high Search Engine Optimization, which means that your site shows up on top of search engine lists when someone types in your name. Tailor the look and feel of your site according to how you wish to be portrayed and the audience you'd like to target.  Make sure it doesn’t look like--dare I say--a 16-year-old's Myspace profile. If you want to be taken seriously, your site should look professional.

2. Your site is your portfolio. You created your site to showcase your work. Let me repeat... your work! Not your killer web design skills (unless of course, you're a graphic designer). No matter what type of art you create, clean and simple design, layout and color scheme are best. At ArtistaMundo.com, we recommend using background templates in White, Black or Grey. This is not only the most pleasing to the eye, but it provides the closest look and feel of a real gallery. Try not to choose backgrounds, colors and fonts on your page that are too “loud” and distract from your work. Interestingly, one of the coolest sites I remember was by a graffiti artist who used a simple black background to display his images, avoiding clutter and designs that competed with his work. Ultimately you want your work to stand out… not the other sparkles and gadgets on your page.

3. Your site is your resume. Your site is the best way to learn more about you, so make sure it has the most complete and current information. Have you uploaded your latest work? Did you include press clippings? Have you updated your biography lately? Revise your bio on a regular and consistent basis. It can be a turn-off to potential buyers to see your Curriculum Vitae end in 2004, when you’d only just completed your first juried student show.

These simple tips make it clear and easy for your targeted audience to appreciate your work, bio and accomplishments.

So remember:

Your site is you.
Your site is your portfolio.
Your site is your resume.
